After 7 games the 2nd XI remain unbeaten under the stewardship of Ali Goddard.
Ali, in his 4th consecutive season as captain is leading from the front once again averaging over 70 so far this season!
After a hard preseason where the 2nd XI lost all three games, hopes were still high of being competitive and finishing in the top two in Division 5. With the team mostly the same as the year before, plus one or two new players, everyone had high hopes for the season!
They have shown they are the team to beat, beating rivals Purton and Burbage to maintain an unbeaten start to the season.
Starting the season with a home game against last seasons title challengers Purton was a tough ask after a testing preseason. The 2nd XI answered any questions that were asked on the day and thanks to a patient 60 from debutant Adam Bolton and a stubborn 44 from Matt Dicker the 2nd XI set Purton 228 to win. Chris Dicker then showed why the first XI are keeping an eye on him by taking 5-30 from his 9 overs to bowl Purton out for 191.
They have kept the momentum going and have gone from strength to strength with everyone in the team making a significant contribution at some stage. In their latest match against Blunsdon, Ali Goddard (80*) and Ryan Salter (56) made light work of chasing 159 after Luke Seymour and Tom Lloyd had both taken 3 wickets.
Saturdays team against Blunsdon included just one player over the age of 30 with half the team actually under the age of 20! Hopefully this young team can stay together and challenge for the Division 5 title!
